There are a lot of notes and points that go along with tonight’s game. Not only are the Kings on a 4 game win streak, they’re on a 7 road game win streak, and with a win tonight, they can tie up a franchise record set in the 1974-1975 season. In addition, a win in the Consol Energy Center means that the Kings will have won a game in every current NHL building.

They’ve been excellent on the road post-Olympics, and after tonight’s game in Pittsburgh, they have 4 more arenas on the road for them to storm through.

The Naked and Famous – Frayed

Though the Penguins sit pretty solidly on top of the Metropolitan division, they’re not really playing the way that they would like. Having lost their last 2 games, the Penguins seem to be fraying at the edges a bit, as evidenced by the closed door player meetings they’re holding regarding their lack of passion as of late. The unease in the locker room just adds insult to literal injury because once again, the Penguins reign supreme in man games lost. The players out are not insignificant either, and Evgeni Malkin is the next Penguin to be out. We’ve joked before that the Penguins seem like they’re sacrificing themselves in order to keep Sidney Crosby healthy, but at this point, I’m seriously concerned that they might have performed some sort of ritual gone awry.

Metric – Combat Baby

Tonight’s matchup is the last game against an Eastern Conference team this season, and a chance for the Kings to be perfect during this road trip. The Kings have done well against the East, having gone 20-8-3 this season and 10-4-1 against the Metropolitan division in particular. As is the case for every game in these following weeks, while the points may not really matter in regards to the Kings, it’ll be a good litmus test as to their performance against cup contenders. The Western Conference battles are up next with the playoffs peeking around the corner, so it’s a good time for the Kings to get their shit together and strengthen their team play.
