Sabres at Kings: Better Than The Worst Team in the League

We were so prepared for the worst, but we’re now pleased as punch that the Kings didn’t continue their trend of losing to garbage teams! There was some consorting with the enemy leading up the game, so that’s always fun.

Felt good to get the first win in the #Sabres jersey…off to LA to see the in laws @JonathanQuick32 ..tell Jac to cook something special

We were denied the USA Olympic goalie showdown between Ryan Miller and Jonathan Quick, but Quick put on a show anyway. Well, it’s more like the Kings were sluggish out the gate, and let the Sabres pepper Quick with shots during most of the 1st period.

The Sabres dictated the game for the beginning of the 1st, which I expected to be a harbinger for a crap game to come, but near the end of the period, Richards tips one in off of Muzzin’s shot.

vsSabres_RichardsTipInThey remembered that they’re playing a competitive hockey game after 4 days off!

Quick continued his Sochi campaign with a couple of great saves in the 2nd, including one right at the top from Matt Moulson. I wish I had kept track of how many times Jim Fox and Bob Miller talked about the fact that Moulson is Quick’s brother-in-law because it was excessive. Sorry Matt Moulson, you no longer have a name, you’re just Jonathan Quick’s Brother-in-Law.

Hey remember when the power play was terrible, and I was actively yelling at the refs to not give the Kings a man advantage because it was a guarantee that they wouldn’t score? I’m really glad we’re past that now. After some patience and some pretty nice passing on the PP, Kopitar tallies another goal of a pass from Doughty.

vsSabres_KopitarPPG2Man, I’m so glad that Kopitar is scoring goals again. SO GLAD.

Although the Sabres should really be used to the fact that they’re terrible and down a couple of goals, Noted 6’8″ Giant, Tyler Myers stirs up some trouble with a reluctant Matt Frattin. Frattin definitely held his own and got some good punches in after they fell to the ice.

My pessimistic doom and gloom was prepared to watch the Kings give up 5 goals, but they were solid in the third. There was a fun time when there was no whistle for 10 minutes, and I cursed everyone because I needed to pee and was regretting the beers I had downed. There was no sloppy period to force the Kings to stage a comeback like they tend to do! Quick denied everyone with a shutout in his 300th NHL game! Kings win!

Kopitar and Richards and Stoll have scored goals now, but we’re still on a Trevor Lewis Points Watch. He certainly hasn’t been playing poorly, but nothing seems to be connecting for him. Something’s got to give…right? On the bright side, he seems to continue playing the role of emergency goaltender, so fake points for him in that regard.

A decisive with is great and all, but I think we can all agree that the best part was the post game, extremely detailed Family Guy recap by one Jonathan Quick during “Kings Weekly.”

Thanks to @PumperNicholl for the video

Just take this and be happy.

Jon Quick sure loves 'Family Guy'Great American Jonathan Quick

Gretzky to Kurri, score! Right?
