Blue Jackets at Kings: Robyn Regehr Strikes Again
This was nothing if not an interesting and action filled game.
Antics abound to ease in the game when the Kings take great offense to the Blue Jackets in general. Matt Greene drops the gloves against Corey Tropp after he does a cross country road trip to check Justin Williams into the boards. Jordan Nolan pokes the bear that is Scott Hartnell after Hartnell punches Martin Jones without any provocation whatsoever.
Beyond that, the Blue Jackets were the only ones to collect a goal during a power play sending Doughty to the box for interference against Adam Cracknell. Cracknell’s already starting shit with his old team.
The second period saw a bit more action in terms of actual goals. This time, it’s the Kings with a power play goal when Jeff Carter cleans up in front of the net. Nearing the end of the period, Tyler Toffoli gives the Kings their second goal for the lead with a beauty of a top shelf goal. More importantly, Robyn Regehr gets an assist, continuing his points streak against the Blue Jackets. In 4 games against them as a King, Regehr has picked up 3 points, and that is hilarious.
As pretty as that setup and goal was, my favorite goal of the game goes to one Dwight King. Bobrovsky makes a save and launches the puck high into the air, but no worries because Dwight King is there to get a quick shot off once it hits the ice, and he beats Bobrovsky. There’s a beat before anyone realizes that it did go in, and when asked about the goal later, King’s just like “I can say say I didn’t even look.” Don’t worry everyone, Dwight’s got you covered, even with his eyes closed.
This joy didn’t last forever because 30 seconds later, Mark Letestu scores to bring the Blue Jackets within one with less than a minute left in the second period. The Kings pick it up in the third period, even without Anze Kopitar who left in the middle of the 2nd period with an upper-body injury and would not return to the game. Things took a scary turn when Nick Foligno collided with a linesman and had to be stretchered off the ice, but it looks like he’ll be alright, so that’s excellent.
With Carter and Toffoli with a goal and an assist each, Tanner Pearson’s feeling a little left out, but he rectifies that in a flash. The Kings fourth goal comes when Toffoli dumps the puck towards a speeding Pearson who beats the Blue Jacket in a foot race and snaps a goal quickly off his stick. Pearson wasn’t done yet, and he scored one more off a rebound to just rub the Blue Jackets’ nose in it.
This win marks a 4 point night for Jeff Carter and Tyler Toffoli, and a Kings franchise high 6 wins during a homestand.
The Kings head on towards the east coast, and here’s hoping that this streak continues.
