The Detroit Red Wings and the Los Angeles Kings face off for the first time this season, and with Quick back in net, a recent commanding win behind them and a healthy lineup, hopefully they’ll harken back to days of old (early December), and pull out another great performance against the Wings.
Icona Pop – On a Roll
Barring the 4-goal game against Boston, the Kings have been in a bit of a scoring slump, as everyone has been yelling about (us included) ad nauseum. One person who is personally rallying against that is the ever delightful Jeff Carter. He continues to lead the team in goals, and has been fantastic about generating scoring.
Also, if anyone tells me that they didn’t immediately start singing/chanting Shots when finding out that Jeff Carter individually outshot the Bruins as a whole in the 1st period is a damn liar.
Shots, shots, shots shots, shots, everybody!
High School Musical – Get’cha Head In The Game
As nice as it is that the top six are constantly and consistently saving the day, part of the problem of course is that the bottom six guys haven’t tallied a goal since mid-December. Last time something like this happened, there were lineup shakeups, but no one’s had the foresight to clone Jeff Carter, so we can’t trade for him again.
Toffoli, who was on fire when he first came in to the lineup, has been remarkably silent as of late, and a goal scorer like him getting his game back is exactly what the Kings need. Frattin is still disappointingly underachieving, the energy guys haven’t seemed to be able to get one in the net, and at this point, I’m convinced Trevor Lewis will never score a goal again (I say, weeping into an American flag).
Martinez’s goal was rare and beautiful, and hopefully spurs on some more defensive scoring. Really, those bottom guys just need to get their shit together and score some damn goals.
Arctic Monkeys – I Want It All
The Boston game had glimpses of almost everything that the Kings need: great goaltending, a power play goal, a nifty one-timer from a defenseman, no camping in the penalty box, shots on shots on shots, and an uptempo game. Jonathan Quick has been fantastic and reliable coming back. On paper, the Kings have every piece they need, and they’re, for the most part, healthy to boot. They just need to find ways to make it all click.
The Kings have the high of a win, but the Wings have the drive of loss behind them, and tonight we’ll see which one trumps the other. The Red Wings also have a lot pieces out of the lineup, including Datsyuk, and are struggling for a wild card spot, so basically, Kings, PLEASE.
