As much as it pains me to say, the Ducks are good. They’re damn good. In fact, they’re fantastic, and I hate it. The Kings have been struggling as of late, and the Honda Center isn’t the best place for them to hit next considering the Ducks have won 20 of the 23 games that they’ve played there. As much as we all lament the fact that the Kings are sorely lacking some depth scoring, the Ducks’ scoring success is largely propelled by only two guys, and it seems to be working out just fine for them.
The Kings are just straight up not good right now. For a while, their lack of scoring was saved by great possession numbers, stellar goaltending, and a solid defense that didn’t allow for the other team to score. Because if the Kings aren’t going to score, then damn it, the opposing team isn’t going to score either. Unfortunately, the tides have turned and things have changed, not in the Kings’ favor. The near heroics of the goaltenders have regressed, and they’re allowing more goals and softer ones at that. The defense is breaking down a bit, allowing turnovers and giveaways and scoring chances for the opposing team. And the scoring problems continue, which certainly doesn’t help the Kings chances.
We all know that something is brewing behind the scenes in the Kings organization. Call ups from the AHL are getting their chances, trades are being made, players are coming and going, and cap space is being freed up. But to what end? The Kings still need something to propel their offense, but who that person(s) will be remains to be seen. With another loss tonight, the 2014 version of the Jeff Carter Trade for the playoff push will definitely happen sooner than later.
