In tonight’s New Year’s Eve matchup, the Kings see the Stars again, the same Stars that ended Martin Jones’ win streak and started the Kings’ current losing streak. The Stars are the damn worst.
Beck – Loser
The Kings are in the midst of a 3 game losing streak, their worst of the season so far. Admittedly, this isn’t terrible or the end of the world, but it certainly isn’t great. What IS a bummer though, is that the Kings can’t seem to score (again). With stellar goaltending, solid defense, fantastic scorers and no huge injuries to speak of right now (knock on wood), they should probably be scoring more goals than they currently are.
I know that Darryl Sutter isn’t losing any sleep over it, but I’m mad about it. John Scott has scored a goal. JOHN. SCOTT. Mull on that.
Sleigh Bells – Comeback Kid
In their past two meetings, the two teams traded 5-2 decisions, so hopefully it’ll flop back into the Kings favor. It bears repeating that I’m STILL furious that they ended Martin Jones’ streak. It’s looking like he’ll be starting in this game as well, so there’s the chance for redemption. Shut ‘em out Joner!
The same troubles loom as last time, and the Kings need to find a way to shut down the Stars’ top line. Each of them scored in their last meeting, but if the Kings play as defensively sound as they did yesterday against the Hawks, they should be alright. They were able to end Patrick Kane’s point streak, and hopefully they’ll end the Stars 6 game point streak as well.
Voxtrot – The Start of Something
Tonight’s game marks the last game of 2013 and the half way mark in the Kings’ season, and overall it hasn’t been too bad. I mean, we could be the Oilers right now ( I don’t acknowledge the Sabres as an NHL team). If tonight is a win then that’s damn awesome, starting the year off right with a win to greet 2014. If tonight is a loss, then let the Kings get that losing business out of their system and start fresh for the new year.
It’s Jeff Carter’s birthday tomorrow, and the last time this year we get to post this, so why not?
Either way (dammit, just win Kings!), eat, drink, and be merry, and have a very happy new year!
