Kings at Bruins: Falling a Nose Behind
I had so much hope for this game, but nothing really seemed to fit together and work for the Kings.
Their first period play was extremely lackluster, and it was only by the grace of Jonathan Quick’s splits that they only gave up two goals. That doesn’t mean that there weren’t any missteps from him, though. Brad Marchand was a menace, as expected, but unfortunately he was a menace in a scoring goals kind of way. While the Kings had the man advantage, he absolutely undressed four Kings players to score the first goal of the game.
This, basically.
Torey Krug gets one more past Quick to extend the Bruins lead. The Kings couldn’t capitalize on any of the power plays they received (shocker), and were shut out in the first.
This continues to be the road trip wher players who haven’t scored finally tally their first goal. Next in line, Willie Mitchell goes to the net to grab the rebound for the Kings’ first goal and the only goal of the second period.
The Kings could have really used another goal this period, but when you get 4 shots on goal and have the scoring woes that the Kings currently do, things just aren’t going to happen.
Down by just one goal in the third and Jeff Carter continues to be the Kings’ most consistent goal scorer and gets a nice one-timer to tie up the game.
Hero Jeff Carter doesn’t disappoint.
Unfortunately, this just wasn’t enough because that little twerp Brad Marchand scored the game winner just seconds later. This proved to be too much for the Kings, who outshot the opposition in the third, but couldn’t manage another one.
