Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova – Falling Slowly
The Kings bad luck continues, and with that, their numbers continue to fall as well. There was a time, not too long ago, where the Kings were top 5 in the league and in the running to steal the 2nd place spot in the Pacific Division away. They’re still managing 3rd in the division, mostly because everyone else continues to be terrible (yes, keep doing that other teams!), but all of their other stats continue to plummet.
It’s also especially telling that I barely care about the fact that this is Jeff Carter’s first game against the Flyers since he’s been traded.
The Hives – I Want More
The Kings need more of a lot of things right now.
It bears repeating that the team has scored a goal or less in their last 5 games, and that’s not going to win you many hockey games. The last time someone not named Anze Kopitar scored was on January 21, in a losing effort against the Blue Jackets. Robyn Regehr scored in that one, so you know, miracles can happen. He also plays in his 1000th game today, but I don’t want more of that, thanks.
Before, the problem was that it was just the top 6 that was scoring, and not any of the very able bottom six depth scorers. But now, it’s just one brave Slovenian, carrying the offensive burdens of a team on his shoulders.
Modest Mouse – Float On
I chose optimism for the last game, but I think I’m going to hedge my bets right now. The Kings are looking rough , and they’re going through a tough stretch. Not long ago, losses still looked like well-played, valiant efforts, but nowadays, that doesn’t seem to be the case. It makes for some very disheartening and unhappy hockey watching. I keep reading this fantastic piece from Jewels From the Crown and wailing about when the goal-scoring and winning days of the Kings will return.
This is what the Kings are doing to me.
The Olympic break is coming up, and the trade deadline is looming ever nearer, so at this point, it’s just a waiting game to see what happens. Will the Kings score some goals? Win some games? Trade some players? Launch themselves into space? At any rate, it’s Kings East in the house, so who knows what could go down.
