The Kings bail themselves out from a 5 game losing streak on the road with some sweet goals by a couple of great Americans. And also Kyle Clifford’s skate.

The Kings led us all into a false sense of resigned doom when two and a half minutes into the first, Shawn Horcoff beats Jonathan Quick on the first shot on goal for Dallas. After 4 demoralizing losses, this goal seemed like the start to yet another loss.

But!

We hope for a Trevor Lewis goal every game, and not only did American Hero Trevor Lewis score a goal, but he scored a nifty short handed one at that, beating both Jordie Benn and Lehtonen in the process.

”Trevor Lewis makes a really good, highly-skilled move here at the end.” Jim Fox knows what’s up.

Trevor Lewis with his 1st goal and 2nd point in 4 games played, and boy do we have some high hopes for him.

It’s a fast-paced, penalty party through much of the second, but there are no goals for either side to show for it. Drew Doughty uses the last minute of the second period to remind us all how damn great he is. As the Stars make a last ditch effort to regain the lead, Doughty beats them to the puck on one end of the ice…

Tries to set up a scoring chance, but it leads to a turnover…

and then hustles to the other end of the ice for one hell of a defensive slide.

And this is why you get drafted 2nd overall.

Both teams push hard in the third to get the lead, but it’s the Kings who prevail. Birthday boy captain Dustin Brown snaps a perfectly placed shot past a screened Lehtonen to give the Kings their very first lead since being on the road. Since October 26th.

At least that’s what it felt like.

The Kings get one more insurance goal when our boy Trevor Lewis picks up an errant Stars pass and rifles it towards the net where it deflects off a Stars player and then Kyle Clifford’s skate. I’ll take it. The Kings bottom six shined and Jonathan Quick stood tall to stop the Kings from having an absolute embarrassment of a road trip.

Now the Kings head back to LA for another homestand where hopefully they get their groove back.
